This position is a leadership role responsible for knowing the company’s product portfolio and assessing risks associated with product performance and stability. The effectiveness of the function is measured by: the number of customer complaints related to product performance or stability, number of defect free production batches manufactured, the number of raw material specifications generated/revised/reviewed, and the number of current product specifications that have been revised. SPECIFIC DUTIES: Follows all site safety rules as per corporate guidelines. Reviews new raw material code request proposals to determine whether a new raw material is required for the manufacture of a Troy finished good. Along with the new product developer prepares Raw Material code request forms including required specifications. Works with Sourcing and Laboratory to ensure that suppliers provide raw materials that completely meet Troy’s requirements. Works with Science & Technology personnel to design and develop experiments to determine the effects of various raw material parameters on finished product performance and stability. Oversees raw material evaluation process and acts as raw material champion. Establishes a process for the review and updating of current raw material specs. Leads the review effort and makes any specification changes recommended resulting from these reviews. Establishes a process for the review and updating of current finished product internal and external specifications. Leads the review effort. Works with Troy Business Unit Managers to ensure customer requirements are known to Troy. Uses this information to ensure manufactured product meets customers’ requirements. Works with S&T to design and develop experiments to determine the specifications that fully define finished product performance and stability. This includes reviewing the current product line as well as all new products. Recommend experiments to ensure that main features and functions of products are retained as other properties (raw materials, manufacturing site) are changed. Works with new product developers in the preparation of tech transfer documents with respect to establishing finished product specifications. Manages Troy’s product sample fulfillment process. This includes managing sample stock inventory, tracking what was sampled, and verifying that the correct samples were sent to the customer. Participates in New Product Development and New Product Commercialization team meetings. Responsible for extensive product knowledge across all of Troy’s Business units. Assist in customer complaint resolution when complaints are product performance or stability related. Participates in ISO 9001-2015 audits as needed. Works with Engineering department during scale-up process. Participates in New Product Introduction process as well as in initial production batches of new products. Performs back up duties for Technology Transfer Manager. Performs special assignments upon request. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate degree in chemistry required. Five to eight years’ experience in new product development in a related field. Must be familiar with Design of Experimental techniques. Leadership skills are required in order to direct and influence others. Analytical and statistical skills are needed for data analysis and determination of data significance.
