This position is part of a 10-member VISTA team operated out of Community Action of Skagit County. Our mission is to foster and advocate for self-sufficiency among low-income people in Skagit County. The Skagit VISTA team helps achieve Community Action's goal of helping people help themselves and each other by building infrastructure and capacity for programs that serve economically disadvantaged individuals across the county. Our partner and host agency for this position, the Mount Vernon School District is a growing and diverse school district that employs nearly 900 people serving 6,000+ students in grades kindergarten-12. One of the highest priority needs with the lowest availability indicated by residents experiencing poverty in Skagit County was access to living wage jobs. This project will address employability outcomes for economically disadvantaged students exiting high school. The aim is provide experience and exposure to employment opportunities to ultimately provide another pathway out of poverty. Skagit County is nestled halfway between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC and just east of the San Juan Islands offering access to the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Fans of the outdoors will love our little corner of the world as hiking, kayaking, river rafting, and biking are a small selection of the popular activities with locals and visitors alike. In addition, our team is composed of both locally grown VISTAs and those who have travelled from out of state. Often our VISTAs spend time together outside of service hours, building a strong support network. Responsible for facilitating patient registration activities. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply. Essential Functions Perform registration procedures in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains an organized and orderly work area and mobile workstation. Ensure supplies and materials are stocked per established par levels. Assure schedules and reports are ready as needed on a daily basis. Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with regulatory requirements. Notify appropriate personnel of patient presence in a timely manner. Verify insurance eligibility and co-pay information in accordance within established guidelines. Obtain appropriate interpreter services in a timely manner. Coordinate staffing a sick call or open shift following department procedure. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Performs assignments in Epic work queues. May be assigned to float to other Patient Registration areas in support of patient care/organization need. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee. Education High School diploma or GED required. Experience/Training Minimum one (1) year experience patient registration or health care front office experience preferred. Patient Registration or Patient Access certification may be substituted for experience. License/Certification None required. Other Qualifications Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of patient registration processes in a hospital and clinic environment. Knowledge of medical insurance and verification processes required. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).
