Role Overview The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer-SDC at the Reston, VA location to join the PCAPP SDC Engineering Team. This position will report to the Project Engineer-SDC. This is an anticipated 6-9-month short-term assignment with a 4/10s schedule. The work hours are from 6:30am-5:00 pm, Monday-Thursday. This position may require additional overtime hours as deemed necessary. Principle responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment. Performs work involving the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, piping and instrumentation diagrams, drawings, line, valve and equipment lists, specifications, datasheets, plans, procurement documents, and/or system descriptions for systems of moderate complexity. Supports work on Inspec database to support issuance of documents. Participates in the following as assigned: Equipment design and development; System design, including concept sketches and layouts; Testing of materials; Reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data generated by other engineers or generated by suppliers; Preparation, or review, of engineering studies and reports; Preparation, or review, of material quantity estimates; Preparation and disposition of Field Change Notices (FCN) and Supplier Deviation Disposition Requests (SDDR); Preparation and disposition of Nonconformance Reports (NCR) and supports closure of actions on Corrective Action Reports (CAR). Assists in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders. Reviews submittals, from equipment manufacturers or subcontractors, of a moderate degree of complexity. Prepares comments and recommendations. Interfaces with vendors. Respond to formal Requests for Information from vendors. Prepare/Respond to Nonconformance Reports for equipment and material defects. Prepare Corrective Action Plans to address deficiencies. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, urinalysis testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by Army Regulation 50-6. * MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / TASKS* Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees. Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations. May be required to work overtime or varying hours. Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record. Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical demilitarization facility. Perform a variety of journeyman mechanical, welder/pipefitter, painter/carpenter, insulator functions in the installation/removal or corrective/preventative maintenance, repair or modification of facility systems, equipment and components (such as conveyors, compressors, cranes, piping, pumps, and valves). Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and specifications in the performance of these duties to ensure system integrity is maintained. Perform emergency repairs to systems, equipment, and components. Record the as-found condition as well as the repaired condition, investigating operational reports of equipment failure and analyze system characteristics to determine cause of failure and necessary corrective action. Demonstrate and conduct required inspection and testing of equipment and components as necessary to complete work packages and ensure systems are returned to operational conditions. Follow predetermined checklist in the performance of preventative maintenance of facility equipment and systems. Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measurement and test equipment in the performance of duties. Set up and demonstrate pressure test as necessary to complete work packages and return systems to operational conditions. Assure code and building standards are met. May perform munitions handling duties when assigned to the SDC. Minimum Requirements Basic Qualifications: High school diploma/equivalent and 6 years experience in an operating demilitarization, chemical, power, processing, industrial service, or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, machinist, plant mechanic, insulation installer, coatings installer, or HVAC mechanic; or maintenance background (including assisting maintenance technicians in entries, the Yard, etc.) with 6 years chemical demilitarization experience, PCAPP Primary Certification or higher and ability to obtain and maintain Level A entry status. Or Completion of formal apprenticeship, similar accredited training program (such as vocational, trade, commercial, or military) in the mechanical field or journeyman certification and 4 years related industrial maintenance experience in an operating demilitarization, chemical, power, processing, industrial service, or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, machinist, plant mechanic, insulation installer, coatings installer, or HVAC mechanic. Minimum Qualifications: Must be a US or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain PCAPP site access. Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment. Able to operate material handling equipment. Have thorough understanding of material handling equipment maintenance. Have thorough understanding of mechanical equipment operation. Have thorough understanding of mechanical equipment maintenance. Must be detail oriented. Able to exercise good judgment in solving mechanical and equipment problems.
