Auto req ID 110702BR Duke Entity CENTRAL ADMIN MANAGEMENT CTR Job Code 83 STAFF SPECIALIST Job Description Occupational Summary This is a full-time position under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports. The Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development, direction and evaluation of a comprehensive Intramural Sports program that serves an average of 3700 participants each year. This position is staff development focused and will have primary responsibilities during evening and weekend programming Sunday through Thursday. Work hours will fluctuate with Intramural Sports leagues and tournaments and will be communicated in advance by the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports. Essential Responsibilities Coordinates Intramural Officials training and ongoing development strategies.Responsible for onsite supervision during evening and weekend league and tournament play.Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate staff members on policies and procedures.Schedules Officials, Scorekeepers, and Supervisors for league events and extramural tournaments.Manages league and tournament operations including risk management and equipment maintenance.Manages participant eligibility membership through IM Leagues software.Coordinates sport equipment rentals including managing requests, purchasing, and inventory control.Conducts annual assessments for programming effectiveness and satisfaction.Assists with scheduling for all Intramural leagues and tournaments.Assists with budget forecasting and management including staff payroll tracking and approvals.Serve as a liaison between Recreation and Physical Education, Duke Athletics, Student Affairs, and other off-campus groups for initiatives and activitiesCoordinates and adheres to departmental risk management efforts for all programs and facilities in areas of responsibility.Serves on departmental, university, and/or national committees. Supervision Received Reports to the Assistant Director of Intramurals for the Recreation and Physical Education Department. Day-to-day functions are accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives. Overall guidance is accomplished through supervisory conferences setting broad goals and objectives Supervision Exercised Supervises part-time student and non-student employees. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution in Recreation, Sport Management, Sports Administration, Physical Education, or related field. One year of professional experience developing intramural programming in a collegiate recreation setting. Two years of Graduate Assistant experience will be considered as one year of professional experience. Sports and competition management experience to include programming, officials training and selection and maintenance of sport specific equipment. Must have current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or be able to obtain within two months of employment. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree from accredited institution in Recreation, Sport Management, Sports Administration, Physical Education, or related field. Two or more years of professional experience developing Intramural programming in a collegiate recreation setting. Certification as a High School or College official in a major sport(s). Active involvement in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). Knowledge, Skills, Ability Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Ability to communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrated understanding and a strong commitment to customer service. Knowledge of risk management planning. Ability to prepare financial reports, statistical reports, inventory control, budget management, and student development for the Intramural program. Shares the responsibility of the mission, strategic planning and goals for Recreation and Physical Education. Knowledge of the principles and practices governing the management of Intramurals; knowledge of the principles and practices used in planning intramural sports; knowledge of the principles, practices and theory of recreation administration. Ability to plan, organize, schedule and promote recreation activities and programs; ability to supervise and direct the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to prepare statistical and budgetary reports; ability to successfully work with and serve a diverse University community; good judgment; reliability; initiative and resourcefulness.
