A Chemical Technician I role in Chicago, IL is now available through Adecco Medical and Science. In this role, the main function is to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials. A typical chemical technician is either a research technician that works in an experimental lab or a process control technician who works in a manufacturing setting. The research technician works on research and development and collects samples or produces compounds. The process control technician focuses on quality assurance and production processes. This is a minimum 9-month contract assignment starting in March/April 2019. The responsibilities of the Chemical Technician I include: Be proficient in the operation of commonly used process equipment. Execute all aspects of assigned experimental procedures. Collect data & samples as prescribed and makes observations of the process. Maintains specified logs, laboratory notebooks, and inventory. Operate a PC to perform various functions such as e-mail, inventory updates, and time keeping. Prepare & label drums, pails, totes, bags, and other containers for transport or storage of raw materials, intermediates, or products. Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally compliant work and storage areas. This includes clean-up of equipment and work areas after completion of a procedure. Identify equipment or systems requiring repairs. Operate transporting equipment used to receive raw materials and the transport of products. Comply with all company safety, quality, and environmental policies. Participate in physical inventory, safety meetings & inspections, and improvement initiatives. Perform in-process quality testing. Be able to troubleshoot and repair minor problems and alert appropriate supervision to major repairs. Education/Experience: High school or college-level chemistry courses. High school diploma or GED required. Associates preferred. Two to three years of operator experience in chemical industry. Experience handling Chemicals in larger quantities & industrial environment(s) - drums, tanks, pumps, blenders, reactors, etc. Working with equipment required for the role. Ability to use simple scientific instruments (such as a pH meter) and can record the results of operator tests on log sheets and other documents. General knowledge of pumps, valves, motors, hand tools, and material handling equipment. Speaks & reads English. Basic math skills.
