Park School of Communications at Ithaca College (located in Ithaca, NY) invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in television and video production— including digital producing and post-production— to begin August 16, 2019. We are seeking candidates that will bring to our program professional industry experience, preferably at the national level, and a deep desire to teach the next generation of media professionals. The MASS department is the largest department on campus and has over 1,000 majors enrolled across six different programs. The Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is acknowledged as one of the top comprehensive schools of communications in the nation, offering 10 undergraduate and 2 graduate degrees that enroll over 1800 students. Our 57 full-time and 30 part-time faculty are dedicated to teaching excellence, but also maintain active profiles as scholars, media-makers, curators, consultants, and writers. Our facilities include two broadcast studios, a sound stage, state-of-the-art post-production system, cameras and support ranging across 16mm and 4k cinema production; the facilities are supported by a professional staff of 16 engineers, technicians, and facility managers. Our school also offers semester-long programs centered on internships in Los Angeles and New York City and Ithaca College maintains a campus in London where students are also able to intern. The Park School embraces a philosophy of liberal arts education as the foundation for the study of theory and practice that leads to immediate career-readiness in a constantly changing industry. The Park School is fortunate to be endowed by such prestigious organizations as The Park Foundation and the Pendleton Foundation, among others. Some of our illustrious alumni include Robert Iger (CEO of The Walt Disney Company), David Muir (anchor of ABC World News Tonight), David Boreanaz (star of Angel, Bones, and SEAL Team), Liz Tigelaar (writer/producer of Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Bates Motel, Casual, etc.), and Barbara Gaines (executive producer of The Late Show with David Letterman), among many others. This position will primarily serve students enrolled in the Television Program, but students in the Sports Media; Documentary Studies & Production; Writing for Film, TV, and Emerging Media; and Emerging Media programs will also be in the classes. The candidate will be expected to teach foundation-level television production courses (single camera/field) through advanced, senior-level television production courses related to one’s own expertise. We welcome the opportunity for someone to join one of the strongest undergraduate television programs in the country. The ideal candidate will be equipped to create an environment that encourages student learning, will have a demonstrated record of professional accomplishment, and will bring additional visibility to the program. Faculty in the Park School are required to teach 21 credits per year, to serve as academic advisors for our students, and to serve on academic committees at the program, department, school, and college levels. Tenure-eligible faculty are expected to engage in peer-reviewed scholarly and/or creative work. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are strongly encouraged to apply. Position/Job Qualifications Required Qualifications • M.F.A., M.A., or M.S. in Television/Film Production or related field, with significant professional experience. • A recognized or growing profile as an industry professional with the potential to become a top teacher of production in the areas of fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid. • Undergraduate teaching experience. • Experience teaching in one or more digital formats. • The candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to teach in innovative ways in order to meet the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population. Preferred Qualifications: In-depth expertise and significant professional production experience for content distributed nationally via the broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, etc.), national cable networks (FX, TBS, HBO, Showtime, HGTV, etc.), streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.), and/or or digital services (YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
