II. Nature and Scope of Duties The Director of the Foundation/ Chief Advancement Officer reports to the Executive Director for External and Government Affairs and performs the following duties: 1. Supervises and works with the advancement team to implement a comprehensive program incorporating annual, capital and major gift fund raising with particular emphasis on identifying, cultivating, and developing strategies for closing major and planned gifts. 2. Serves as the Director of the Foundation, responsible for the oversight of foundation operations, fiduciary obligations, board of directors and its strategic plan. 3. Oversight for foundation policies and procedures, its by-laws, and ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulations in conjunction with college policies and procedures. 4. Develop and maintains effective working relationships with members of the Foundation Board, College Board of Trustees and program advisory boards. 5. Implements and manages a comprehensive major gifts program that blends outright and deferred giving, focusing on gifts of $50,000 or more. 6. Working with the Director of Operations, identifies, researches, analyzes, and evaluates prospective major gift donors; and insure the database is utilized optimally, and recordkeeping is compliant. 7. Working with the Director of Development, translates program priorities into action plans and gift opportunities and matches them to donors’ interests. 8. Works with high-level volunteers and key faculty and executive staff to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects. Prospects and donors will include individuals, foundations and corporations. 9. Prepares cultivation and solicitation strategies and policies/procedures for volunteers, College faculty/staff and the college President and oversees follow-up strategies for each donor prospect and stewardship activities. 10. Working with the Annual Fund/Alumni Coordinator responsible for the preparation of solicitation materials, marketing materials and publications. 11. Working with the Coordinator of Development responsible for designing and coordinating events and other activities for alumni and donor stewardship and cultivation. 12. Working with professional advisors, oversees administration of the Heritage Society, which has been established to recognize and honor donors who have provided, or plan to provide, gifts to the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation through bequests, trusts, life insurance or other vehicles to benefit the Foundation’s future. 13. Maintain current knowledge/updates of tax law, finance and current trends in philanthropy. 14. Ensures compliance for the Foundation Scholarship Program, Awards and Funds; maintaining and updating departmental and donor agreements. 15. Acts as liaison to the college’s retiree association, “Keepers of the Flame” ensuring accuracy of retiree database and assisting the group in developing educational, social volunteer opportunities and communicating those events to members. 16. Identifies and cultivates potential volunteer leadership for board development, events and future capital campaigns. 17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
