GME PROGRAM DIRECTOR EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM The Program Director of the Emergency Medicine is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and the general administration of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program sponsored by Cartersville Hospital. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of the Emergency Medicine residency program.         Responsibilities of the Program Director are as follows: 1. Organize and direct the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Cartersville Hospital and Redmond Medical Center, including the organization of rotations and other educational activities at all clinical sites that participate in the program.   Appoint site directors for all participating training sites utilized by the residency program. 2. Maintain an active clinical practice in Emergency Medicine within the ACGME required restriction of 960 clinical hours per year and an average of 20 hours per week.  3. Recruit and select the Emergency Medicine residents.     4. Provide annual statistical and narrative information for the program in compliance with the requirements of the Emergency Medicine Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.  Prepare for the on-site program reviews as necessary. 5. Submit reports on program, faculty, and fellow performance to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) as requested by the Chair of the GMEC.  Update at least annually both program and resident records through the ACGME’s Accreditation Data System. 6. Ensure the implementation of fair policies, grievance procedures, and due process, as established by the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and in compliance with the ACGME Institutional Requirements. 7. Maintain current knowledge of the accreditation and operational requirements of the residency program, including monitoring current trends and anticipating changes.  Attend educational programs sponsored by the Association of Program Directors in Emergency Medicine and other professional education related activities intended to maintain and improve the quality of the program.  8. Seek the prior approval of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Designated Institutional Official for any changes in the program that may have significant impact, including financial, on the program or institution or significantly alter the educational experience of the Emergency Medicine Residents. 9. Select qualified emergency medicine physicians and other specialists to serve on the program faculty. Organize the faculty to deliver a consistently high quality education program. 10. Evaluate the performance of faculty in meeting program objectives. Approve the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation. 11. Develop and implement faculty development programs to enhance the knowledge, clinical expertise, and teaching skills of the faculty.  Assure that faculty meet research and scholarly activity requirements of the program, including active participation in the clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and research conferences in a manner that promotes a spirit of inquiry and scholarship.    12. The Program Director and the faculty are responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Emergency Medicine residency curriculum to provide a high quality education program and to meet the standards established by HCA Graduate Medical Education and the requirements of the ACGME and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. 13. The Program Director and the faculty are responsible for evaluating resident performance in relation to the educational objectives and ACGME Milestones of the program and for maintaining appropriate documentation of the evaluation process. The Program Director is responsible for monitoring the progress of each resident in meeting the clinical experience and procedure requirements of the program, including assuring that residents log cases in a timely manner. The Program Director is responsible for documenting completion of training and qualifications for each resident, as required by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. 14. The Program Director shall assure that residents are assigned clinical responsibilities appropriate for their level of training and level of knowledge and skill, are appropriately supervised in clinical assignments, and provide safe and effective patient care. 15. Implement policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements for resident duty hours and the working environment, including moonlighting. Distribute these policies and procedures to the residents and faculty. Monitor resident duty hours, according to sponsoring institutional policies, with a frequency sufficient to ensure compliance with ACGME requirements. 16. The Program Director shall work in cooperation with the Division Vice President for Graduate Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and other members of hospital and Graduate Medical Education administration to assure the effective, efficient, and fiscally responsible operation of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.  17. The Program Director shall participate on the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and other relevant committees as requested by the DIO and the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Qualifications: The Program Director must possess the required specialty expertise, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities, to carry out the responsibilities of the role and to achieve the goals and objectives of the program.   Current Certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine   Demonstrate clinical competency as a practicing emergency medicine physician.  Minimum of three years of experience as a core faculty physician of the faculty in an ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine residency program.  Minimum of three years of administrative experience in graduate medical education The Program Director must be appointed in good standing to the Cartersville and Redmond Medical Staff . Laurentian Engagement Assistant Director Reporting to the Director of Laurentian Engagement, the Assistant Director of Laurentian Engagement will be responsible for all affinity programming, both on- and off-campus. This includes efforts around clubs/organizations, athletics, Greek, and academic programs. The Assistant Director will also manage the Alumni Association Facebook page and be the point person for the EverTrue platform. This critical work, in line with the University’s strategic plan and goals, will create stronger ties between alumni and the University, with one another and with students. Primary Responsibilities Manage Affinity and Volunteer Programming Develop a strategic slate of 25-30 regional events based around affinity groups (i.e. hockey, SLUGAC, Adirondack Semester, etc.) In partnership with Saints Network Volunteers, help market and prepare volunteer-driven events in various locations including Charter Day events. Manage Reunion Weekend Affinity Programming Organize, strategize and execute Reunion Weekend affinity programming on an annual basis. A minimum of two years of experience in higher education or a similar field. Comparable undergraduate experience in development, alumni relations, admissions, communications, athletics, or student life will be considered. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proficiency in The Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud NetCommunity preferred. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, build effective relationships, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to develop strong relationships with Laurentians with the highest degree of professionalism. Willingness to travel frequently and work some evenings and weekends.
