RN-House Supervisor

Position Type: Regular Scheduled Hours per 2 week Pay Period: 48 Primary Location: NE > KEARNEY > GS RICHARD YOUNG ? Principal Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the coordination and support of patient activity and safe practices in all clinical areas on the designated shift. Responsible for accepting and placing all admissions on the designated shift. ? All hospital EMTALA transfer requests are approved by the House Manager. Responsible for facilitating unit triaging during times of peak census. ? When high census or ICU contingency plans are imminent, coordinates decisions with Directors, Medical Director, Vice President, and Administrator on-call as appropriate. Supervises emergency situations, providing direction, support and assistance as necessary toward problem resolution. Coordinates daily staffing adjustments to maintain safe and effective care. ? Works with Department Director as necessary to resolve floating and assignment issues. Serves as a resource to physicians when issues arise. ? Answers staff questions regarding medical staff privileging when needed. Serves in a patient/family advocacy role when issues are identified. Responds to high risk situations, takes on-site action, and communicates with appropriate Director/designee or Administrator on-call in a timely manner. Serves as a resource for policy and procedure interpretation. ? Provides back-up infection control coverage. Serves as an expert resource to critically think through complex clinical issues. ? Appropriately accesses resources when needed to ensure safe, knowledgeable, age-specific patient care in a holistic manner. Provides evaluative information regarding employee performance to the Director. ? Appropriately coaches and counsels staff on technical and behavioral issues when problems are identified; follows-up with Director on actions taken. Supports an assigned group of float pool and PRN Staff through management activities of coaching and counseling, competency assessment, supporting professional practice environment, and staff communications. Assumes responsibility for duties and projects that may be assigned. Lead House Manager additional duties include: ? monthly and non-routine scheduling (such as sick calls), ongoing communications to include monthly house manager meetings and systems to keep competency assessments, support and development, coaching and counseling, and performance reviews. Additional requested meetings include the Nursing Operations Council, Department Director meeting and retreats, and other key groups in which house management input and representation is essential. Collaborates with other House Managers to ensure that there is one House Manager &/or Bed Manager scheduled to work 24/7. Facilitates the House Manager Staff meetings by collecting appropriate agenda items and documenting the minutes of the meetings each month. Assists Director with the completion of all annual performance evaluations of Bed Manager/House Managers. Assists Director with the hiring of new staff along with any progressive disciplinary actions of current staff. Attends meetings as requested by Director &/or ensures that a House Manager/Bed Manager representative is present as requested to meetings. ? Your time at work should be fulfilling. Rewarding. Bachelor?s degree required or academic plan to accomplish within 24 months required for House Managers accepting full- or part-time positions of 40 hours or greater every two weeks. ? This requirement was waived for initial incumbents to this position if applicable experience was present. Graduation from a school of nursing acknowledged by the State of NE Department of Human Services, Division of Regulation Licensure. BSN or MSN preferred. Licensure: ? Active NE (or multi-state compact) Registered Nurse license. ? Individual is responsible to maintain active license. PALS certification. CPR certification within 3 months. ACLS certification within 6 months. Certification in specialty area preferred (ex: CCRN, COR, CEN) Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Associate required upon hire Experience: ? Three years prior nursing experience in an acute care setting. ? Previous experience in a team leader capacity. Supervisory or management experience preferred. ? ? Professionalism/Growth: ? Must have knowledge of nursing management skills including leadership, information processing, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision making. Must have knowledge and understanding of nursing process and interdisciplinary team approach to patient care. Must possess current technical competence related to emergency medical procedures and clinical nursing skills performance. Ability to see and hear in order to perform assessment duties. Must possess interpersonal skills to effectively work with employees, physicians, visitors and guests in routine and difficult situations. Ability to prioritize and organize work. ?
